Suggestions for Chicago on Migrants

Migrants are being sent to major cities, New York and Chicago, seemingly for destruction and to exhaust resources. Mayor Eric Adams of New York says the migrants will destroy New York City. He points out the city will be left with a $12 billion deficit. New York has received 110,000 migrants in the city to date, and he is now asking city agencies to cut their budgets. He is the loudest voice of the major city mayors requesting federal assistance for a crisis.

Chicago is a targeted migrant city. Mayor Brandon Johnson‘s solution is to house migrants in empty hotels and to build tents throughout the city for housing. The city is looking at a crisis in the making as the migrants stay at police stations and O’Hare International Airport. How does the  Chicago budget allow $300 million for migrant care? Where does the money come from? The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago in 2024. Migrants will be where? Will the city be stripped of resources? Alderman Walter Burnett says 40 migrants fly into Chicago daily.

Chicago needs very strong leadership at this time to figure out this problem. Mayor Johnson does not appear to have real answers. His experience as an administrator is limited. He might be over his head. Leadership might consider a summit. We have never been faced with such a dilemma. The city is facing a crisis in violence throughout, and winter is coming. The migrant problem is challenging, but tents are not a realistic answer. Migrants in police stations are an unnecessary hardship. We must change the laws to give migrants a work permit, or we will exhaust city resources.

What Do We Do?

#1 –  Don’t let them get off the bus.  Send the bus back to its point of origin.

# 2 – Direct the buses to the suburbs.  Share the migrants in Chicagoland.

# 3 – Direct the buses to Springfield. Downstate has farmland.

# 4 – Place the migrants in the 50 schools that Mayor Rahm Emanuel closed rather than in hotels.

# 5 – Place the migrants in the empty Water Tower Place.
