President Donald Trump has done what no other President has ever done or even thought of. Trump manages the government as if federal funds were his personal money—his own funds, his own transactions. To say the least, he is self-serving, using the government to target his political enemies. And now, the ultimate transaction emerges: he claims that the Justice Department owes him $230 million. This is for previous federal investigations and grievances, specifically when his home was raided for classified government documents from the White House and his contacts with Russian operatives in 2016. Literally, truly, the President of the United States will pay himself.
This is the most egregious act of them all. Is this an act for impeachment? It is another statement on what pure power can enforce. He certainly will go down in history for his exercise of power.
Black Reparations…
If Trump can get paid for his grievances, can Black America receive compensation too? I think about the lynchings and broader injustices, like the outlawing of people—human beings seen as property rather than individuals. What about those who have gone to jail unjustly and later been found not guilty? What about the illegality of Blacks being barred from learning, marrying, or owning property—the Jim Crow laws and Black code laws? What about the denial of legal rights to own property or the redlining practices, especially in housing and insurance? What about the shame of segregation? What about the criminal acts like the Tulsa Riots of 1921, and other cities that were burned down because of Black success or White anger fueled by the Ku Klux Klan? What about job denial or being refused bank loans for starting a business or for mortgages because of race?
I am wondering if Trump can get paid, if he can pay himself a handsome sum by the Justice Department for his personal grievances, Black America should be able to get paid too.
I am thinking out loud, obviously.
