Girl Group Flo is the Name To Know!
Fresh on the scene and already building a rapidly growing fan base, the new British girl group FLO has a sound worth listening to. Members Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer formed in 2019 and signed to Island Records, where they released their breakthrough single Cardboard Box, which preceded their debut extended play The Lead (2022). FLO won the 2023 Brit Award for Rising Star.
What really makes FLO stand out is their chemistry. Like Destiny’s Child, these three young women have a natural rapport and a strong bond that shines through in their music. Whether harmonizing on a chorus or trading verses, the trio always manages to create a sense of unity and sisterhood that is both inspiring and infectious.
Overall, if you’re looking for some fresh and exciting new R&B music to add to your playlist, I highly recommend checking out their debut single, ‘Cardboard Box,’ or their Missy Elliot co-signed feature, ‘Fly Girl.’ These young women will make an impact on the R&B music scene in the near future with their powerful vocals, catchy beats, and irresistible energy.
Beyoncé‘s internet loves FLO but has been a little crazy lately with a discussion about the best duos, and I’ve heard some interesting suggestions, but let’s keep things simple by comparing the winners’ bracket.
Best Duo’s
‘Industry Baby‘ by Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow is our first contender. The opening trumpets, which repeat throughout the song, make you feel like a winner. Nas X is no stranger to success, having defeated Mariah Carey for the longest-running number-one single in Billboard Hot 100 history! And, as if that wasn’t enough, Jack knocks this one out of the park with his verse, which is nothing new for him. This song was used in so many things, from athletic videos to promotional content and every TikTok video from the end of 2021 to the summer of 2022; I even heard it at church! That makes for some stiff competition, but the ladies had something in store for these boys!
The girls are coming in strong with ‘Boy’s A Liar,’ the newest by British singer PinkPantheress and American rapper Ice Spice. The song was released by PinkPantheress in November of 2022. The dance-pop, bubblegum pop, synth-driven, Jersey club beat was a hit, gaining traction on TikTok, and was literally everywhere on social media. I almost got tired of it. The keyword is Almost!
The song is so catchy you kinda don’t even realize it ends! ‘Boy’s a Liar pt. 2’ featuring an additional rap verse from recently crowned Princess of Hip Hop Ice Spice, and its music video made the song a bonafide sensation! The song went from a virtual hit to a chart-topping hit! Spice’s verse is so killer I still hear people today say, “And I can’t sleep enough without you, and I don’t eat enough without you; if you don’t speak, does that mean we’re through? DON’T LIKE SNEAKY SH*T THAT YOU DO!” Like the material is THERE.
But this is a bit of a tough call! These songs are so evenly matched that they hit word for word, bar for bar! So, who do you think wins? Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow or PinkPanthress & Ice Spice?
