Did you ever wonder where did the concept of labor day begin? Well here’s the story, It started with the pullman porters who were the servants on the trains. This was the beginning of the Black middle class. We now have the Pullman National Monument in Pullman. From 10am to 2pm they will host events to include presentations, music, trolley tours and historic building tours. All activity is Free. A. Phillip Randolph helped organize Pullman Porters into a union known as the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. The museum is the nation’s newest National Park on Chicago’s South Side. Check out the history in your own back yard.
