The midterms are over. The Democrats won, and the Republicans lost. The Illinois big race was the governor. A nice margin reelected J.B. Pritzker. He won twice against well-financed Republican races. He won twice against well-financed Republican races. “Rich man” Ken Griffin put up $50 million against him to support Aurora’s Mayor Richard Irvin and then comes along with downstate farmer Darren Bailey. Pritizer won again with his own $150 million in campaign funds. The last two governors have been billionaires winning with their very own fortunes. Bailey ran a racist campaign. The new word for a racist is “extremist.” He told us that. “The majority of slaves holders treated their slaves well. “
Bailey’s statement alone was enough to sink him with the Black vote. He also made anti-semantic remarks. He also picked us his rifle. His southern twang sounded like a White Mississippian that sends chills through you. He didn’t even say that he was from Illinois. In Chicago, who needs a farmer? The commercials put forth by the one-time political reporter Charles Thomas were silly in their premise of voting for a farmer. The farmer had no plan.
The new Republican engages in racism and attack politics. Donald Trump lost the election, and those affiliated with him, those he endorsed, were losers. And now we await Trump’s announcement that he will run for president again in 2024. Hopefully, he studies the returns and reconsiders especially given his own legal issues.
The Democrats won. How did they win? They won with decency and by issuing a clarion call that democracy was at risk. The Republicans talked about inflation, gas pricing, and groceries. The American public is not naïve or stupid. If we lose democracy, what about gas prices and groceries? There is a qualitative difference between Trump politics and Biden politics. Trump has worn it out. His flighty arguments, insults, and lies all add to the bully tactics of an unassured man. Say what you will; the pundits and the polls missed it. The red wave didn’t happen, because it was never a reality in the first place. The American public is sick and tired of being sick and tired.
People see the obvious. The pundits sit at the computers and watch trends, but too often, they miss the regular Joe. The regular Joe gets it. Political tv commercials have taken over the airwaves at great expense, with advertising at a whopping $7.6 billion. The television stations won.
Republican politics has become the game of Trump. They have lost their way. The attack doesn’t work. The Democrats got it right with the emotion of politics, the claim of the political order. One of the influencing factors of this year’s election is the fallout of Trump’s lies. January 6 was a critical day and a wake-up call. The brutal attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did not sit well with the American public. It is scary and alarming.
The politics of Georgia is a national race. Senator Raphael Warnock, I predict, will return to the Senate. The Republicans run a football history maker against him, and Herschel Walker becomes the model for the new Uncle Tom. His treatment of women is abusive and abrasive, no matter how you view it. Your girlfriend goes into the doctor’s office for an abortion, and you wait in the car. Really? It sends a negative message to women, no matter how old they are. It is the essence of crudeness. Do you want such an insensitive guy to make life decisions for you? He will do what his Republican masters tell him.
So, now that the midterms are over and the governor’s race is over, we can get on the actual race – the Mayor of the city of Chicago.
