The Fires of Los Angeles

As America enters a new political regime, the fires in Los Angeles prompt us to reflect more deeply beyond politics. These fires are an act of God, perhaps driven by global warming, and definitely a disaster. Some people woke up today without a home and all their material possessions gone. One of my dearest friend’s daughter, and her family are among those who now have no home. They are left with only the chimney of what was once theirs.

Life is sketchy at best. You think you have it all, you think you know it all. You think the plan is in place, and then a sudden factor happens. It could be an accident, a fire, or an illness. But something lets you know how vulnerable you are. Your home burns with no forewarning.

Freighting is the president’s viewpoint. He suggests he may not send federal government assistance because it is a red state and Governor Gavin Newsom did not ensure that the fire hydrants worked. Does he not realize the fires are far beyond the local fire hydrant? America cannot have a president who thinks, in real time, that federal aid is about party politics.

We pray that the people of Los Angeles get their lives back on track. It will be years before the burning land is filled with new houses and lives. It will not be an easy plight, but we, the people of America, must come together to help as we can. We need not see politics, the governor, the mayor, or the fire chief paying the blame. I hope the investigations reveal how the fires came about and how to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Life is strange, and things happen in bizarre ways; perhaps God is talking to us, telling us to straighten up and pay attention.

Prayers to the citizens of Los Angeles.
