Do We Need Political Rules or Reporters with GUTS?

Donald Trump and Rachel Scott of ABC News (National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention)

We need rules for running politicians. Donald Trump, as the days lessen for the vote, has become vulgar. He went to Pennsylvania, a critical swing state, and talked about Arnold Palmer, who has been deceased for eight years. He talked about his golfing, but more importantly, he spoke about the size of his penis, as discussed by fellow golfers in the shower. His language was obscene. Yes, that’s right, a presidential candidate on stage talking about a sizeable penis. Really. The locker room takes to the stage.

At the same rally to the same audience, he spoke about Vice President Kamala Harris and said she was a “sh**ty Vice President. He has lost control, hopefully, as his election fails. He has imaged himself as a macho man, swaying on stage to the song “YMCA” by The Village People. Is this is theme music?

Who Calls Him Out?

It is time for the mainstream press to call him out and stop the fool from being a fool. Save him from himself, and how about respecting the American public properly? For about the last decade, in some form, Trump has been the darling or the devil of the media. He is a self-promoter. He is convincing and sounds like a used car salesman made just for late-night television. He believes he will solve all your problems by voting for him (or his for-sale product).

After this election, he assures America that there won’t be any more voting. He’s aiming for the media. He promises to revoke CBS’s license and take 60 Minutes off the air. He declares that he will stop watching ABC TV. He promises to do away with public radio and television. He threatens to use the military against everyone who doesn’t agree with him.

He will therefore destroy American media as we know it if any of this materializes. So, the question is, who criticizes Trump? Who says, Mr. Trump, hold on a second? Or should we simply let him ride into the White House or the sunset? Do we dismiss him like we do the “drunken uncle” and put him in a rocking chair in the corner, or do people recognize the indignation in what he is saying?

A Threat to Society…

Trump is a dangerous threat to the culture of America. He has killed the Republican party. Many of his Republicans are switching to the other side. Many are writing books and appearing as talking heads to address the Trump danger and insanity. They should be listened to. Comedian Larry Wilmore says America will change to “Merica.”

Meanwhile, politicians spend a lot of money on major mainstream media, thus the abundance of coverage. For example, Trump’s campaign has spent $78 million this month on ads, and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris spent $270 million last month on ads.

The ad spend with running politicians becomes ridiculous as they try to get their persuasive messages out. So, as media customers, they have to be listened to. But at some point, fact-checking, quality journalism, and decency have to enter.

Politicians need rules. Or do we need some reporters with GUTS?
