The Historic Debate….

President Joe Biden lost. Donald Trump won. What? The historic debate. Trump’s win is by default, as he told lies without fact-checking. Biden answered the questions. Trump didn’t and told lies. His lies went unchecked. The debate was not about the debate. It was about the look. Let’s call it the Hollywood factor or the TV look factor.

Trump is a big man and comes across as aggressive with deliberate leadership. He is assured and confident. Biden looked lost. He was pale and exuded little to no leadership energy. He did not look like he was in charge. He made age a factor. It has been reported that he had a cold, which can make you feel dumpy. Mika Brzezinski of “Morning Joe” reports that in a week, Biden had been in 4 different time zones and, at debate time, may have suffered from jet lag. At any cost, he might have canceled.

After the debate, the immediate analysis-type discussion was to replace Biden because he came off so poorly. He did not look like a winner. He is not yet the nominee. Should the Democrats chance losing the election, or do you avoid debates, or do you increase Biden’s media presence, or do you replace the nominee? This is the pundit discussion after they all agreed that Biden did not do so well. You do not throw the baby out with the bath water. You clean it up. Rev. Al Sharpton still supports Biden and points out that if the Democrats choose to replace Biden, there will be a chaotic upset in the next two months before the convention.

Debates are Tricky…

Debates are tricky. Barack Obama failed his first debate with Mitt Romney. His inexperience was showing. The classic and first TV debate was with John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. Those who heard the debate on the radio said Nixon won, and those who saw the debate on TV declared Kennedy the winner. Why? It was about the look. Kennedy was relaxed and tan. Nixon was sweaty. Say what you will; it’s about the look and energy.

Truth be told, Biden is one of the most qualified presidents we have ever had. He served in the Senate for 36 years, from 1973 to 2009. He was the Vice President for eight years in the Obama administration. He navigated the political waters for Obama. He is more than qualified to run America and the Oval Office. He knows policy and has done a fine job. But he has to communicate his policy and his deeds. Did he study too much?

Did he over-prepare? He quoted too many statistics and policy statements. It seems to me he didn’t prepare correctly. Yes, to the government answers. But he didn’t prepare for the bully, who was his single opponent. How do you prepare for Trump, the bully and the liar? Biden, by nature, is a gentile man,  a statesman, polite and kind. Trump is a bully, a giant of a man, aggressive. That’s where the Biden failure lies. Biden may have too many politicos around him planning for the debate. He needs some Hollywood types, and Rev. Al Sharpton, Joe Scarborough, and Charles Barkley added to the debate prep team. And please, without fail, bring David Axelrod to the White House.   He is a masterful media strategist.

There is a discussion about whether Biden should resign or who should replace Biden as the nominee. Given the alternative of Trump or Biden, Biden is still the one. With Biden, we keep America, America. With Trump, we lose our country to a Hitler-style playbook. How about it? Trump might be sentenced on July 12 to jail or house arrest. With the current laws, he could still be president but, as a felon, could not vote. How about it?

Let’s get real, Biden team.
