N’DIGO: In your own words, who is Jennifer Ether?

Jennifer Ether: Jennifer Ether is an energetic, passionate, intelligent person who enjoys human connection and thoroughly enjoys peaceful solitude. I’m a mom to an amazing little boy who brings joy and excitement to my life. I want to see those around me win and will support them in any way to see my loved one’s dreams come true. I love to eat, dance, travel, read, write, and discover new music. I enjoy seeing people accomplish their goals, no matter how long it takes to get there. It’s not about the length of time it takes; it’s the commitment it takes to get there.

What are three words family and friends would use to describe you?

Funny. Generous. Patient.

As a child, what did you first dream of doing for a living?

I had two imagined lives. One as a dancer and the other as a nurse.

How did you find your way into the world of health and fitness?

Fitness has always been a part of my life since dance started early in elementary school. Then, in high school, I started to explore my athleticism with the track. Over the years, I began exploring wellness from a different perspective, from a functional standpoint, with a physical benefit and a mental release.

Tell us about the work you do at [solidcore].

At [solidcore], I teach a 50-minute low-impact Pilates-inspired workout using a megaformer. The goal of the workout is to reach second-stage muscle failure, which creates not only physical strength but also mental endurance.

In your opinion, what are three of the biggest mistakes people make when starting their health and fitness journey?

Underestimating the amount of patience and time it takes to see the end goal. None of the changes people are seeking occur overnight. It takes time and consistency to see and feel a difference.

Not prioritizing nutrition. Nutrition is the foundation of health. No amount of working out will yield the results most people are after if diet isn’t prioritized. You can not outwork a bad diet.

Comparing oneself to others. Several factors play a part in how a person looks – genetics, height, medical conditions, build, etc. With these things in mind, it’s important to consider that where one person is on their journey is different from the next. Give yourself grace, get focused on what your goals are, and continue working towards them.

Biggest misconception about hiring a personal trainer?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that we will make the client do the type of workouts we do. A good trainer knows what a beginner looks like and should be able to modify exercises to suit the client’s needs. Progression comes with time, and the more challenging workouts will gradually be implemented into the program as the client continues to develop.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

I think “burpees“are the most ridiculous exercise ever invented. Also, I would choose to eat dessert before my dinner any day.

Can you name a book that changed or impacted your life and give a sentence about why?

Atomic Habits by James Clear changed the way I look at decision-making. When making changes in your life, you must examine your daily habits thoroughly. Most of the time, it’s our own habits that hold us back.

We often dismiss small changes because they don’t matter much now…Success is the product of daily habits- not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.”

Best advice or words of wisdom?

Your life isn’t quite yours if you spend too much time worried about what other people think. Do what brings you joy, choose kindness, breathe deeply, plant your feet firmly into the ground, and just be.

Favorite quote or affirmation?

Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor” – Rumi

What’s next for Jennifer Ether?

I can’t say what’s next for me as of now. I know that everything that I do from this point forward will be more intentional. Moving with purpose seems to always place me right where I need to be.
