WDB Legacy Awards Gala Honors Black Entrepreneurship – By The Black Foodies

We’re in the middle of February 2020 and one of the crown jewel events of Black History Month in Chicago is coming up soon.

The Fourth Annual WDB L.E.G.A.C.Y. Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, February 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Malcolm X College, 1900 West Jackson Blvd.

Keeana Barber, CEO and founder of WDB Marketing, is presenting this black tie event. Radio personality, A.C. Green, will once again be Master of Ceremonies.

The L.E.G.A.C.Y. Awards recognize and celebrate African-American entrepreneurship. Over 600 businesses will be celebrated – ranging from mom-and-pop establishments, non-for-profits, emerging enterprises, and national corporations – and are expected to share valuable insight into what makes their businesses successful.

The Black Foodies

The Black Foodies were fortunate to attend last year’s event, and we had an incredibly great time and met some valuable contacts, many with whom we continue to correspond and network. So, be sure to bring your business cards to this great networking event.

The Gala is structured as follows:

From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will be the Networking Reception and Restaurant Showcase. Some of this year’s restaurants and chefs will be Majani Soulful Vegan Cuisine, Shaun Michelle’s Homemade Ice Cream, Golden Gloves Cuisine, JR Jerk, Lexington Betty Smokehouse and Chef Corey Rice, along with other culinary dignitaries.

From 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. will be the Awards Gala and from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. will be After Party Networking. This year’s honorees will be Kim Foxx, State’s Attorney for Cook County; Andrea Zopp from World Business Chicago; Chris James from Hero Foundation; Eric Williams from Silver Room; and Thomas Crosby from Insurance Exchange.

Historic WVON/1690AM will be honored with the overall legacy award. The highlight of the evening, in our opinion, will be the Young Entrepreneur Award, which is given to a business owner 25 years of age, or younger.

Finalists will present their business model to a panel, similar to the television show Shark Tank. The winner will receive over $5,000 in prizes and professional services. And, new this year, the winner will receive a trip to Ghana to attend the United States Africa Youth Entrepreneur Summit.

Come on out to what has become a Black History Month tradition in Chicago, the WDB L.E.G.A.C.Y. Awards Gala. Come dressed to impress and to see who will be walking down the blue carpet this year. A who’s who of Chicago’s business community will be in attendance.

We hope to see you on February 29. For tickets and further information,
