Meet Deonte Baker

full-singerClarence Waldron, former entertainer editor for Jet Magazine and publicist for Aretha Franklin has discovered a new talent. Deonte Baker , 24, sings and recently made his solo debut performance.

From the moment he strolled on stage singing “Pure Imagination,” Deonte Baker had us. There was nothing he needed to do besides sing, sing, sing. He sang “Words Have No Meaning” followed by his first gospel song taught to him as a child, “Faith.” Baker is the vocal instructor of the Chicago West Community Music Center, the popular school on the West Side of Chicago founded by Howard Sandifer in 1999. Deonte joined when he was a sophomore in high school. He is charming with a
three-octave tenor voice and a powerful stage. about stage presence . In my 29 years with Jet, I studied and observed the very best performers. He stands ready to take his place in that elite class of singers or as he says “sangers.” There is a difference.
