The Chicago Westside Music Festival (WSMF) created an unforgettable summertime music experience on Saturday, August 16th with safe, entertaining family-fun focused atmosphere. Throughout the day, guests experienced a dynamic group “Chicago’s Own” talent which included Terisa Griffin, La Obra, and Aniba Hotep & The Sol Collective, Chas, Charles “Buddy” Love, Tina Jenkins Crawley, Aryk Crowder, Em Jai, Norris EJ and Dometi Pongo. The eclectic mix of music genres closed with a ‘90s R&B throwback featuring Brownstone and 112.

“The local talents touched my soul,” said Iya Bakare, Chicago-based writer and attendee of the festival all three years. Headliners ‘90s R&B groups Brownstone & 112 took me back to the times when those songs were released. Hearing those notes & watching those dance moves put me in a time warp I didn’t want to escape for a minute.”

The WSMF’s activities included creative interactive fun for everyone. Kids enjoyed the high-
energy Radio Disney demonstrations and the Chicago Park District’s “Kids Zone.” In addition, Acts of Love provided free books for kids as part of their “Love Young People” tour.

Guests also enjoyed the MillerCoors Beer Garden that was new to the festival this year.

“We are so thankful to everyone that came out and supported the Chicago Westside Music Festival,” said Co-producer, Michelle Geddes. “Our third year was bigger and better and we had a ball! It was a safe, fun atmosphere with a full day of AMAZING MUSIC!”

The event took place at Garfield Park and is powered by the Michael Scott, Jr., M Group Worldwide, the Chicago Park District and the Westside Cultural Foundation (WCF). WCF seeks to create free cultural experiences throughout the westside of Chicago. The WCF was established in 2012 in effect to create cultural programming for the youth, adults, and seniors and support the Westside Music Festival.
