The 5th Annual Authors and Artists Chicago took place at Columbia College recently. New York Times bestselling author Omar Tyree headlined the event. Toure Muhammad, founder of Bean Soup Times and Xernona Woods, author and motivational speaker, hosted the event.

1st National Meeting for Women of Color Writing Drama

Almost 100 women of color writing plays and scripts convened at Loyola University Chicago for four days and nights of workshops, focus groups, and performances. Well-known and emerging playwrights in attendance included Lynn Nottage, Lydia Diamond, PJ Gibson, Kia Corthron, Magdalena Gomez, Lenelle Moise and Nikkole Salter. Theater artistic directors Martha Lavey of Steppenwolfe (Chicago) and Howard Shalwitz of Woolly Mammoth (DC) were part of the honorary committee for the conference.

Up and coming playwright Lydia Diamond, received the "Whisper, Laugh, Shout, Tell The Story Award" at the ceremony at the Hotel Orrington. Her most recent play, "Stick Fly," is getting raves all over the country!
