Over night “12 Years a Slave” star Lupita Nyong’o has become Hollywood’s one to watch. Her performance in the critically acclaimed movie has won her the Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice Award for Best Actress Supporting Role and nominations for Best Supporting Actress from the Golden Globe, BAFTA and (thought to be) the highest accolade The Academy Award (Oscar).
The Kenyan’s classic beauty has not only caught the attention of her peers in Hollywood but the eye of fashion critics as well. Now she‘s the “It Girl” whose red carpet and award show looks are being talked about and tweeted faster than gossip spreads on a high school courtyard. Every red carpet appearance has outdistanced her ahead of the competition. Her style and fashion combined is a caption of sophistication and poise. Being in the theater and film industry she understands the importance of fashion and how to incorporate it with her specific style.
Fashion critics note her simple yet bold choices. She donned a teal Gucci dress at the SAG Awards and a red Ralph Lauren gown at the Golden Globes. Yet fashion choices aren’t high on the actress’ radar.
She quoted “I don’t feel pressure because for me, my first love is acting. That’s where my focus is. I have the opportunity to learn about the fashion world, and I appreciate it as an art form. But I never want it to take over my acting.”
Lupita plans to keep her Oscar dress under wraps until we see her on March 2nd at the Academy Awards ceremony ruling the red carpet. I’m sure she will not disappoint fashion critics and fans alike. One word of advice to Lupita from N’DIGO is to enjoy the ride and keep making smart choices on the red carpet.
Here are some of Lupita Nyong’o’s best red carpet looks and kudos to her red carpet collaborator Micaela Erlanger!
