Featuring Sikia’s Famous $7 Three-Course Lunch

 To celebrate Carnival and Black History Month, Sikia Restaurant at Washburne Culinary Institute will feature traditional Brazilian dishes on its menu February 6-8, 2013. Sikia Restaurant is open for lunch only on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (773) 602-5200.

On February 6, Cristiane Pereira, chef and owner of Taste of Brasil restaurant in Oak Park, will serve as guest chef at Sikia, working with Washburne students and overseeing their preparations. At noon, Chef Pereira will provide a brief overview of Brazilian culture, cuisine and the tradition of Carnival for restaurant guests. Brazilian cuisine reflects indigenous, Portuguese and African cooking traditions, among others.

Sikia’s menu regularly features global contemporary cuisine prepared by Washburne’s student-chefs in their final phase of study. A three-course plated lunch costs $7, not including beverage, tax and gratuity.

The special Brazilian menu items will include:

  • Coxinha (chicken croquette)
  • Caldo Verde (soup made with potatoes, collard greens and sausage)
  • Feijoada (national dish of Brazil; a black bean and pork stew, served with rice and collard greens)
  • Bobó de Camarão (shrimp with yuca and coconut milk)
  • Fried Bananas with Passion Fruit

Regular menu items will also be available.

Shrimp with coconut milk, black beans and rice, and collard greens will be on the menu at Sikia Restaurant, February 6-8, for Washburne Culinary Institute’s celebration of Brazilian Carnival and Black History Month.
