“Chicago!  Chicago! My kind of town.”   I’m sure you’re familiar with that song. It’s our hometown anthem.  Did you know that Chicago has another anthem?  This anthem you won’t hear being sang by Frank Sinatra.  Instead, you’ll hear it being rapped and bumping from the speakers of cars on the street.  Our other anthem is called “Walk With Me” by Chicago’s own D.A. Smart.  It’s known as Chicago’s “Hood Anthem” because he names every neighborhood within Chicago as well as the corresponding gang within each.  This legendary track was released in 1997, but sounds just as good today.  Unfortunately, the violence that was going on then has gotten even worse.

D.A. has humble beginnings, growing up in the Chicago Housing Authority’s (CHA) Robert Taylor Homes and Altgeld Gardens on the south side. He has always been a fan of Hip Hop, starting his journey as a break-dancer.  He found his true calling once he started to rap.  Other old school rappers that hail from Chicago are Common, Twista and Da Brat.  It would really be epic if all four of them would collaborate on a track.  The public would love it!

We haven’t heard from D.A. in quite a while but he’s making a comeback.  On Sunday, August 10, 2014 he will be participating in a STOP THE VIOLENCE concert.  It is FREE and will be held at Hayes Park, 84th & Whipple, starting at 12:00 noon.  For more information please contact 773-932-5949.

Ndigo.com:  What is your REAL name?

DA Smart:  Herman Smith

Ndigo.com:  Are you back in the rap game?

DA Smart:  My love for Hip Hop never faded, so to ask if I’m back, when I never left, is an oxymoron.

Ndigo.com:  What have you been doing since you released “Walk With Me?”

DA Smart:  I’ve released “Millions More Movement”, “Nation Business”, “The Gift”, a few other singles like “Hip Hop Where She Go”, “I Don’t F*ck With You Nigg*s” and “Mercy Mercy Me.”  In April, I dropped a Terror Records compilation called “Reign Of Terror.”

Ndigo.com:  What do you think about all of the violence that is going on in Chicago?

Ndigo.com:  What do you think about all of the violence that is going on in Chicago?

DA Smart:  I hate it!  The wickedness of the wicked stinks in my nostrils.

Ndigo.com:  What can be done to stop it?

DA Smart:  The men in our communities need to stand up, ban up and man up to take control of the children; in our homes, on our blocks and in our communities.

Ndigo.com:  Are there any other Artist from Chicago that you would like to do a collaboration project with?

DA Smart:  I would love to do something with ANYBODY from Chicago.  I love my city!

Ndigo.com:  Do you have any upcoming projects?

DA Smart:  Yes.  I have an upcoming album named “12.”

Ndigo.com:  When is your next performance?

DA Smart:  I just performed on Wednesday, July 23rd at Sean Nitty’s Mixtape Release party @ D’Las Sports Blue in Chicago Heights, but my next performance will be August 10, 2014 on 84th and Whipple @ The Legends of Chicago Hip Hop picnic.

Ndigo.com:  How can people keep up with you to see what’s going on?

DA Smart:  Let the people know they can hit my website.
