Marches, rallies follow Zimmerman acquittal – U.S. News

[dropcap] NO EXCUSES! [/dropcap]

There should not have been a Martin/Zimmerman trial because Trayvon Martin should still be alive!

Absolutely unbelievable. But then again, believable. The system has failed us all once again with the ‘Not Guilty’ verdict of George Zimmerman delivered Saturday night.  How it is possible for a jury to hold no one accountable for the MURDER of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is beyond comprehension and human morality.  It’s absurd and brings forth further outrage and sadness.

How many times do we need to remind the law and those who sat on that jury with the power to make a difference and take a stance that this was an innocent child  walking home from the corner store, alone. He was followed and harassed by Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watchmen who DISOBEYED POLICE ORDERS that directed him to REMAIN IN HIS VEHICLE  and leave the kid alone?

Why was that fact not held at the forefront of this case?  There would have been no case for “self-defense”.

There should not have been a Martin/Zimmerman trial because Trayvon Martin should still be alive!

The trial was hard to watch.  But we had to stick with the Martin family in hopes of justice and continued prayers that Trayvon’s soul could rest in freedom and peace knowing that his attacker would spend the rest of his life in a cage.

Furious emotions erupted once the verdict was in. Social media flooded with opinions and displayed disgust about the justice system and called for physical activism.  Scrolling through the letters, images, and videos of rallies and protests,  there was one that spoke so heavily.

In this letter to Zimmerman, it stated that though he is free to walk the land, he also inherited Trayvon’s life – that of being a Black man in America. Safe he is not. Judgment, he will endure. Suspicion for looking the way he does, he’ll deal with that too. It will be hard for him to get a job. There will be no just reason why people stare, walk the opposite way, clench their purses, and hate him.  He will get harassed, no matter how hard he tries to live a normal life and work hard – no matter how decent a person, he sees himself.

The clench: “I bet you never thought that by shooting a Black male, you’d end up inheriting all of his struggles. Enjoy your “freedom.”

George Zimmerman’s life will never be the same. Never.
