Making his way into the upper echelon of must-see stylists, former Chicagoan Lawrence Roach lives and breathes fashion.

Depending on his mood, the hottest celebrity stylist in Hollywood right now goes by the monikers “Luxury Law” or “Style Capone” and is the “image architect” of some of the rising stars in showbiz.

The stylish jetsetter affectionately known by his close counterparts as “Law,” can be found behind the scenes on the set of a photo shoot for the Rebellious Soul diva K. Michelle, attending New York Fashion Week or collecting lavish labels to add to his eclectic wardrobe.

His clients include Grammy Award winning artist/producer Swizz Beatz, Lupe Fiasco, America’s Next Top Model Eva Marcille, LaLa Anthony (who graces the cover of an upcoming issue of Jet Magazine next month), R&B singers Monique and Brandy, and Disney star Trevor Jackson.

But his pièce de résistance client is Zendaya Coleman, the 17-year-old former Disney sitcom actress who is now a Dancing With The Stars star and the “it” fashion girl to watch out for.

Law is just back from being with Zendaya on E!’s Fashion Police and has made her the new fashion darling in Hollywood.  When Zendaya walked the red carpet at the 2014 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles looking edgy and sophisticated, the singer/actress wore a beautiful long polka dot print silk dress. The perfectly fitted black and blue dress landed Zendaya at the top of many Best Dressed Lists for 2014. Law Roach was the wardrobe stylist behind that.

Law has come a long way since his days as a bartender at some of Chicago’s swankiest clubs. He began his career as a vintage broker, collecting and curating some of the world’s most sought after vintage pieces.

That rapidly increased his popularity, which led Law to New York to open his first boutique, Deliciously Vintage Harlem. Inspired by that remarkable success, Law founded Deliciously Vintage Chicago, bringing a renewed energy to the city’s fashion scene.

Inevitably, the boutique captured the attention of fashion icons such as Kanye West, who helped his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose pick out clothes from Law’s shop.

Extending his influence, Law revels in working with rising artists, and does so by collaborating with labels and companies like Atlantic Records, Hollywood Records, Island Def Jam, Disney and Allstate. As a result of his exceptional taste and expertise, Law’s clients continue to stimulate a myriad of trends, appearing in blogs and magazines for winning “Who Wore it Best” and “Best Dressed Celebrities.”

Fueled by his love for fashion, Law continues to distinguish himself as a stylist and fashion guru. Whether dressing clients for red carpet events, or styling magazine spreads and covers for Jet, The Source and Jones Magazine, Law remains unparalleled and unstoppable in the world of fashion.

Just this month, Law launched StyleWise Academy, which essentially offers a crash course focusing on the artillery needed to be a successful fashion stylist. StyleWise Academy is currently presenting workshop style seminars across the country, kicking off with a five-city Midwest tour that recently had its first stop in Chicago.

StyleWise Academy is powered by Law and Alisha Crutchfield, who co-founded the shopping girls’ go-to e-commerce site Angela Simmons’ Shop.AngelaIAM.com.  She is also the former Fashion Director of the Miss Universe organization. As fashion industry veterans, Law and Crutchfield felt an absence in guidance for the next generation of fashion stylists.

So, through StyleWise Academy, they reach the next generation and help prepare them. The crash course they offer into the world of styling covers style kit necessities, client invoicing, securing paying jobs, diversifying clientele, and many more topics.

With the courses being taught by stylists who are currently successful and active in the industry, students are exposed to the most current and relevant information available. This also provides students with the “inside scoop” on what the industry is really like and changes within the field. Students of StyleWise Academy are anticipating walking away with breakthrough tricks to the industry.

BeBe’s Interview With Style Capone

Former N’DIGO writer BeBe Jones recently interviewed Law on her fashion website RowASeat1.com.

For nearly a decade, BeBe’s creativity has been an asset to the industry and its many branches, both as a fashionista show associate and fashion writer. She sharpened her journalism skills at Jackson State University and then studied fashion merchandise at IADT-Chicago.

Be, as she is affectionately known, zipped, tucked and delivered a behind the scenes etiquette for major fashion shows like Macy’s Glamorama, P. Diddy’s Sean John, Jennifer Lopez’s Sweetface and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

After making her rounds backstage, she returned to her writing roots on the fashion blogosphere. Her bylines appeared on several blogs: The Fashion Spot, Coca Media Group, and The Maven Report. Globetrotting, trend spotting, and style making have made her an authority on all things haute and heavy.

The birth of RowASeat1 stemmed during BeBe’s work experience at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2010. To her surprise, the “front row” turned out to be more entertaining than the actual show – before and after! While carefully observing the glitz and glam of the front row, BeBe analyzed its importance, and instantly it sparked an idea for a different spin on the average fashion blog.

RowASeat1 is a Chicago-based style blog highlighting women and men of color by giving them the opportunity to showcase their work, as well as sharing their stories of the world of fashion.

BeBe says of Law Roach, “For this Midwest style maverick, YES, dreams really do come true.” The following are excerpts from her interview:

RowASeat1:  Luxury Law is?

Luxury Law: Oh, wow! I’m an easy-going kind of dude from the South Side of Chicago who loves being his own boss and loves being a stylist in the fashion industry.

Wardrobe styling because?

It chose me! Honestly, it’s the only thing I’m good at, and this is what God blessed me with. It’s what I’m good at!

Who or what inspired you to become a wardrobe stylist?

Actually nothing inspired me. I wasn’t anyone’s assistant and I didn’t have a mentor. I decided that’s what I was going to carry myself as, because I knew I wanted to be a stylist.

First styling job?

My first styling job was for an independent film, Dirty Laundry, starring Loretta Devine, Rockmond Dunbar and Sommore. I was responsible for the wardrobe and I had to learn it all, from character development to continuity.  It was hard, but it’s what I wanted to do.

Fantasy clients?

I’m different than others – I like working with clients who are on the rise, like my current clients/muse, Zendaya Amaree and K. Michelle. I feel good because I’m a part of a movement. I choose to work with more of a fresher movement.

Three celebs whose style you admire?

Rihanna, Chloe Sevigny, and Swizz Beats, of course!

When styling a client, what items are necessary?

For female clients, SPANX. SPANX. SPANX. Double-sided tape, needle/thread, and a lint brush! For male clients – guys aren’t that complicated, but a lint brush for sure!

Fashion faux pas?

Someone who rocks EVERY SINGLE TREND at the same time!

Actress/Singer, Zendaya

Actress/Singer, Zendaya

What trends are you anxious to see for Fall/Winter?

All the prints. Pastels, I’m such a fan, and I love, love, love the menswear trend! A woman in menswear is so sexy to me … so androgynous!

Luxury items you indulge in?

I’m a bag boy; if you know me, you know I carry bags! I switch it up. I have the Givenchy Nightingale bag in grey and the YSL Hamptons bag!

I never leave home without?

(Laughs) My American Express and a pair of sunglasses!
