Janelle Monae Performs In Chicago Illinois

Flashing a contagious smile and her signature black and white, singer/songwriter Janelle Monae made a stop in Chicago as part of the “Electric Lady” tour. No stranger to the Chi, she was here promoting her album a few months back and invited guests to a private listening session and buggied down the soul train line with intense energy.

This go round, she made a stop at Westinghouse College Prep High School in East Garfield Park and dropped a few gems, encouraging students to stay focused and weed out individuals who offer nothing positive in your educational and growth journey.

Here are three key points the singer shared with students before hitting the stage for a two-hour sold-out performance at The Vic!

“Stay away from people who stop you from being focused.”
“Find people who help keep you balanced and give you guidance and advice.”
“Have a support system, because life’s not always going to be what you want or expect.”
