Children receiving a back-to-school haircuts at Hair Cuttery salons in Chicagoland during the first two weeks of August will be giving one back to a disadvantaged child in the community.
Hair Cuttery, the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in the country, will launch its 13th annual Share A Haircut event this year, donating one free haircut to a child in need in the community for every haircut purchased for a child 18 or younger from August1-15, 2012.
“We expect 75,000 haircuts to be donated in communities across the country to children in need,” says Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. ”
“We’re proud to offer this program that gives children the opportunity to help other kids in the community. A simple haircut can make a big difference in a child’s appearance and gives students more confidence as they start the school year.”
Through partnerships with the Illinois Department of Human Services and other government and non-profit agencies in the state, vouchers are distributed to local children in need to obtain a free haircut in August.
Nearly 900 salons nationwide will participate in Share A Haircut. Hair Cuttery has donated more than 625,000 haircuts since the program’s inception in 1999.
In addition to sharing haircuts through salon visits, this year Hair Cuttery fans can also donate haircuts through their social networks. Every time a fan shares the “Share a Haircut” Facebook app, Hair Cuttery will donate a haircut to a child in need. The app is accessible at www.facebook.com/haircuttery.
Hair Cuttery has a history of charitable giving. The company supports Locks of Love and a range of national and local charitable causes, including: Dress for Success, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, Buzzing 4 Change, The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Easter Seals, The Hero Campaign, and Susan G.
