Located at 2240 South Michigan Avenue, Glam Luxe Boutique is your one-way stop for top of the line hair and consultation.
The décor exudes upscale style and trend. The colors on display are black and pink, with an instant glam vibe. The counter is a glass case with samples of the most high-end and recommended hair brands in the world.
The background ambiance is filled with blow dryers working their magic and stylist-to-client consultation.
The boutique, owned by Heather Boston Williams and Deanna Morales, houses couture hair extensions imported from India and ranges in options from sew-ins to 12’-22’ bundles of clip-in ponytails and bangs.
One of its top-selling brands is Black Label hair, producing robust strands and a low luster look that offers a very natural look.
And for those of you who like to add a little spunk of color, they have that, too. Your options are limitless, but begin with light brown colors to auburn. The plus, the hair can be dyed to the client’s liking. Talk about customer service!
Since its Chicago grand opening in 2010, Glam Luxe has become the premier spot for the upscale woman and has grown to include numerous celebrity clientele from Chicago to Los Angeles. Jennifer Williams, best known from VH1’s Basketball Wives, serves as the brand’s celebrity spokesperson, attracting a national client base.
As a principal owner of the chic Flirty Girl Fitness Lifestyle and Spa and with a successful background in marketing and advertising, when crafting the idea of Glam Luxe, Heather took Flirty Girl’s vision phrases pink, hot, and glamorous and added that to the makeup of her hair extension boutique.
“I was not in the hair industry at all,” Heather admits. “I’m in marketing and advertising and what happened was I saw a need for clip-in hair. I was living in L.A. at the time wearing my natural hair, but I wanted to buy clip-in extensions and what I found was that there was no quality hair.”
Her inventive mind began to spin and the next move started a trend that’s cute and convenient –– two words women love, especially when it comes to hair.
“I went to one of the better stores and bought super-high quality hair and sewed the clip-ons myself –– this was like 6 years ago before clips were in –– and I took them to my stylist in L.A. and everybody at the salon was shocked at how natural it looked.”
The creation ignited a deeper look into the hair industry and how the process of achieving a natural look, even while wearing clip-in extensions, worked. This in turn, prompted a three-week trip to India where Heather was able to visit five different manufacturers and really learn the hair industry.
“And I guarantee you, you don’t want to see that hair in its natural state because it goes through quite a few processes before it comes to the U.S. looking the way it does,” she advises.
“It’s very technical and a lot of work. They have to lay all the hair in single strands. That’s why if there’s even the slightest human error, it can mess up an entire batch of hair.
“When I started to really understand how intricate it was, it helped me to understand the business even more before I started to sell it.” Reaching that understanding, part of all Glam Luxe proceeds benefit educating women in India.
As one of the first boutiques of its kind, Glam Luxe took in extreme amounts of research to make sure their product was exclusive, couture, and exuded high-quality.
The hair ranges in price starting at $250, with the highest purchase being $500, depending on brand, length and texture.
“We sell hair to all of the high-end salons here in Chicago; we get stylists and customers off the street, who may not come and get their hair done here but buy their hair from here because we are one of the only places that sells this quality of hair in the retail atmosphere.”
Customers also have the choice of buying the hair at Glam Luxe and receiving great hair styling and consultation from the boutique’s professionally trained stylists.
Let’s be honest –– there are times when we sell ourselves short in terms of quality products. Hair is one of those items and one of the industry’s toughest challenges. You cannot determine quality just by looking. Sometimes you have to endure the process, and unfortunately, hair is one of those expensive testing processes.
“You can’t look at hair and tell whether it’s good quality and that’s the biggest problems with hair in this industry,” Heather says. “You actually have to wear it. Sometimes you can get what looks like a perfectly beautiful bundle of hair, you put it in your hair and the first time you wash it, it’s tangling and knotting up.”
She warns, “Honestly, the only way you can tell in this industry if the hair is good and quality is through representation and industry standard. I highly recommend if you’re going to pay top dollar for hair, you better know 10 other girls who’ve worn that hair first.”
That’s another reason why customers enjoy the Glam Luxe experience. “They can come here, touch and feel the hair, smell it, whatever they need to do,” Heather says. Customers can even make special orders and really create a unique look that fits their everyday style.
What’s causing all of the attraction is the versatility. The clip-in couture and bangs are hot sellers because they are in and out. You can be in the mood for long, luxurious hair or a China bang one day and the next you can go back to your signature look.
So you can really style your way for the corporate world and the nighttime diva!
