A musician

can exude emotion with a simple note. They can touch on life and become theme music to your stride. It is possible for this young man to become the next great legend in musicianship – think Uncle Q (Quincy Jones). Don’t Kill his opportunity to grow, learn and achieve.

 ~The Black Child~

[From "Inner Visions : A Poetry Anthology" - by The Detroit Black Writer's Guild 1994]

I am a Black child,

A child filled with fantasies and aspirations,

I am a success that will prosper in the future

My attributes expand beyond the deserts of Africa

My African heritage has inspired me to succeed

in the white society

I will conquer every obstacle,

and relish all triumphs

vast and minor

For I am a Black child

in an environment which I’ve yet to endure …

- Asandi S. Conner (1st place Winner, 1992 Paul Laurence Dunbar Poetry Contest)

DKMC:

The Don’t Kill My Chance Campaign is to visually emphasize the pains of the city as it relates to senseless violence and the loss of youth. Our hope with this movement is to direct and focus the social lens on the endurance of life and allowing children an equal opportunity and chance to grow up and live the life of their dreams and desires.

Join us in our movement to raise peace and opportunity. Hear No Evil. See No Evil.
