Congressman Bobby Rush and “From Fatherless to Fatherhood” Address The Issue of Fatherhood

Rush-Brown

Filmmaker Kobie Brown joined Congressman Bobby Rush at the “4thAnnual Pre-Father’s Day Conference” which took place at the Illinois Institute of Technology, The McCormick Tribune Campus over the weekend, where guest were treated to a preview of Brown’s social documentary film, “From Fatherless to Fatherhood”.

The event focused on reconnecting fathers and reconnecting families. It also focused on giving father figures practical solutions to ending fatherlessness in our communities.   From Fatherless To Fatherhood was highlighted as a positive representation of African-American fatherhood, while also discussing the causes, effects and possible solutions to father absence. The film features testimonials from Gospel singer Kirk Franklin, Garland Mosely (father to Timbaland), educator Dr. Stephen Perry among others. The goal of the film is to turn the corner on father absence, one story at a time.

“As a society, our focus on fatherhood and family must extended beyond Father’s Day, “ says Brown. “Far too often, quality manhood and fatherhood are not displayed, talked about or even worse, observed, in communities that need them the most. Congressman Rush understands this and we share a desire to provide examples of quality relationships that will help turn the tide on many of the challenges that exist as a result of father absence. I consider it nothing short of an honor to have been a part of this event.”

Brown will be featured at the 2012 Essence Music Festival on a panel focused on fatherhood and family.
