Chef Roblé: “ I’m More Than Just A Chef, I’m An Entertainer”
There’s no question as to what draws people to Bravo TV’s Chef Roblé Ali. His allure engages a cultural presence from the food and events he curates to the company he keeps in his inner-circle – fashion designers, print and runway models, artists, musicians, other elite clientele and those who salivate at just the smell of damn good food.
“I’m in the hospitality business. I’m not just a cook; I’m an entertainer,” he tells me during our conversation at the Everyday People Brunch: Chicago Edition on Sunday. “ Even if you don’t see me, my job is to make sure that everybody is having a good time.”
It was just that on August 18th at Sawtooth Lounge when Roblé and friends Saada Ahmed, Rita Lynn and DJ Moma brought the “Everyday People Brunch”, which started in New York, to the Chicago scene. Presented by SKYY Vodka’s House of Moscato, the brunch, which opened at noon, had a line wrapped around the West Loop block by 10 am and kept the grub, drink and party going well into the evening.
After Roblé said his peace over the mic and proclaimed his love for the Chi, the party was in full effect with DJ Moma spinning nothing but hits with a 90s’ flair. The second the intro dropped for Arrested Developments “Everyday People” we went crazy! Hands in the air, mouths wide-opened singing, “ Iiiiiiii am every-day peo-ple…”. The feel was old-school-house-party-dope.
“I know how to cook but I’m more proud of my ability of being able to make people have a good time than being able to cook. “Everyday People” in New York, they come to party. They don’t even eat!”
Chicago likes to eat and party – it’s the Chicago way.
Guests of the brunch and day party had four, signature SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape Cocktails to enjoy:
- Moscato Gem (SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape, Sparkling Wine, Orange Bitters, Sugar Cube)
- Moscato Sunrise (SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape, Pineapple Juice)
- Moscato Sangria (SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape, Moscato Wine, Strawberries, Pineapple, Honeydew, Cantaloupe)
- Moscato Press (SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape, 7Up, Club Soda)
When it came to the menu, Chef Roblé curated an American Brunch served buffet-style of French toast with strawberry apricot syrup, corn bread, fried shrimp, smothered chicken, and grits which all enhanced the smooth taste of the signature cocktails.
“Food is easy. We’re doing American Brunch. The thing that makes it good is love. You apply that ideal to every factor that has to do with food, you’re going to get good food. That’s what makes it special,” Chef Roblé dished.
