John Ruffin’s “Broadway To Bronzeville” Series continues with The Color Purple!

Fresh from the success of his musical stage play directorial debut of DreamGirls Chicago, director John Ruffin presents his sophomore production, The Color Purple, in the “Broadway to Bronzeville” Series to premiere at the Harold Washington Cultural Center on Friday, July 27th.

The Color Purple was hugely successful as a novel, on screen and on Broadway.

The 1982 epistolary novel by American author Alice Walker won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for fiction writing along with the National Book Award, also for fiction writing. The work was later adapted into a film and musical of the same name.

Theater 47 promises to entertain and engage their audience by featuring over 50 of the most talented Chicago actors, singers, and dancers, along with continuing to serve as an economic boost to the arts community in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood.

“I want to continue to bring our communities great entertainment without creating a financial burden for those who enjoy the arts,” stated Ruffin.

Theater 47′s resident choreographers, Winkk and Davonna Edwards, will electrify the audiences with their amazing choreography. Their work in DreamGirls Chicago received rave reviews from industry professionals, media outlets and theatergoers alike for its creative flow within the storyline.
