3x Brain Tumor Survivor, Chicago Actress/Singer Donica Lynn’s “Today’s A Good Day” Concert Pays Tribute to Cancer Warriors

Chicago actress and vocalist, Donica Lynn (Chicago Opera HouseDuke Ellington’s Queenie Pie), will hold her bi-annual, “Today’s A Good Day” tribute concert on Monday, June 9th at the Mercury Theater, 3745 N. Southport Ave., with doors opening at 7:30 pm. The “Today’s A Good Day” concert pays tribute and lends an understanding heart and song to all those affected, in any way, by cancer.

As a mother, wife to be, and three-time brain tumor survivor – championing two brain surgeries in 1987 and 2010, Donica is on a mission to educate and advocate conversation about brain cancer awareness. On October 21, 2013, Donica felt compelled to share her story through her gift of song and birthed the “Today’s A Good Day” concert tribute to discuss her journey battling cancer while still maintaining a progressive theater and singing career for the past 21 years.

Hosted by multiple Jeff Award Nominee, director Rob Lindley (Porchlight’s How To Suceed), director Lilli-Anne Brown (Victory Garden’s Dessa Rose), and Lara Filip (Paramount’s Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) the evening will be filled with song and testimony through Donica’s renditions of tunes such as, Sara Bareilles’ ‘Brave’, the chart-topping ‘Fireworks’ by Katy Perry, and “Believe In Yourself”, an inspiring and uplifting melody from the 1978 film, “The Wiz” starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, just to name a few. The benefit will also feature various special guests such as Grammy Nominee Justin Roberts, and various musical theater performers that are based in Chicago.

Brain tumors do not discriminate and are common in both children and adults. In 2013, it was estimated that 69,720 new cases of primary brain tumors would be diagnosed. For every 100, 000 people in the United States, approximately 221 are living following a brain tumor diagnosis, according to the American Brain Tumor Association. Despite medical challenges, Donica and her team of supporters – SongbirdBLU Believers, she completed the Breakthrough Brain Tumor 5K (BT5k) on April 27th and raised over $500.

Tickets for “Today’s A Good Day” Concert Tribute are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Donations are tax deductible and all net proceeds benefit the American Brain Tumor Association as well as the American Cancer Society.
