13TH ANNUAL “FOOD FOR THE BODY & SPIRIT” PROGRAM

Wednesday, November 21, the morning before Thanksgiving, the halls and surrounding areas of Apostolic Church of God on Chicago’s south side were full of activity. In addition to the funeral service honoring Chicago firefighter Walter Patmon Jr. which was held in the sanctuary, the Black McDonald’s Operators Association of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (BMOA) hosted its 13thannual “Food for the Body & Spirit” community outreach program in the church’s banquet hall.

This was the first year Food for the Body & Spirit was hosted at the historic church. The program emphasizes the importance of nutrition, volunteerism, and quality time with family.  The BMOA transported attendees from numerous homeless and human services shelters around Chicago.

They were treated to a hot breakfast, along with inspirational performances by area Gospel artists, including Kim Stratton, MAC 2, and the Chicago Westside Choir. Attendees were also provided with health screenings, winter-wear, and hygiene kits.

Dignitaries in attendance this year included Gary, Indiana Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Chicago C.A.P.S. Director/Commander Ronald M. Holt.  Ronald McDonald, Birdie and Grimace of McDonaldland also stopped by to greet the children in attendance.
