On September 6th and 7th, 2013, Miami HEAT Champion and Chicago-native Dwyane Wade will return to his hometown for a weekend of events in support of his Wade’s World Foundation and the Chicago community.  This year marks 10 years of service that Dwyane and the Wade’s World Foundation have provided to communities all across the country.

“I am very excited to host a weekend of charity events in my hometown of Chicago and to celebrate the ten years of service we have provided to communities across the country,” said Dwyane Wade. “I am especially looking forward to the Live to Dream Festival with Mayor Emanuel and the City of Chicago, which will inspire children to dream big by providing them with programs and support to help achieve their dreams. My foundation and I want to stress the importance of after school programs that help keep children focused and safe.”

“Making our kids safer and their futures brighter is something we are all responsible for, and achieving that dream means providing opportunities and safe, fun places where children can learn and explore,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.  “For our kids to live up to their full potential, we as adults need to live up to our obligations to them, and I am grateful to Wade’s World Foundation and the work they do to enhance the lives of so many children throughout our City.”

On Friday, September 6th, Dwyane will host the Wade’s World Foundation 10th Anniversary Celebration Gala at the Peninsula Hotel. The evening will include the unveiling of the “Choose to Live, Live to Dream” campaign and the introduction of the 2013 Excellence in Philanthropy Award.  The award recipients will be honored for their profound commitment to youth and for positively altering the life of many disadvantaged young people across the country. Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie will be among the honorees.

On Saturday, September 7th, Dwyane will host the Live to Dream Festival at Douglas Park. The Wade’s World Foundation has collaborated with the City of Chicago to provide a day of entertainment, resources and encouragement for children and young adults within the city. The free festival will forge a strong message that we believe our youth will make better choices when their natural abilities, talents, and aspirations are nurtured through quality programming in a safe environment. There will be an opportunity for youth to sign up for City approved after school programs to ensure access to a safe haven throughout the year. Onsite activities will include entertainment, free dental and health screenings, and employment opportunities for young adults.
