They met at a mutual friend’s party over two years ago.

They flirted, greeting each other like they knew each other, when they really didn’t. But Mr. Vince Garrett acted like he knew Imani Khayyuh because he didn’t want to risk not seeing her again.
Imani said it was love at first sight or was it first like. They are opposites and they attracted, as the saying goes. Imani is in marketing and is a real estate broker. Vince is a deputy sheriff. They are the definition of white collar and blue collar professionals.

They married last summer at Rockefeller Chapel on the University of Chicago Campus. They honeymooned in Hawaii on the islands of Kauai and Oahu. They wanted to stay but think they might retire to one of the beautiful islands.

They are a traditional couple, coming from traditional families. Imani wants the world to know chivalry is alive and well. Vince is the expression of a strong Black man as a husband and as the head of a black family.
So how do you stay married these days when the divorce rate is esclating? How do you do it? What is the magic formula? Imani says “put God first” and take 10 minutes before you respond if you are in challenging communication, in other words, think about what you say before saying it. Anything goes does not work.

She also says, love the person you are with for who they are, don’t try to change them but love him for who he is not who he isn’t or who you want him to be. Keep it real.

Love prevails.
