For the last few years we’ve watched troubled actress Lindsay Lohan battle with drugs, alcohol and rehab. It seemed like for every two steps forward she took, she ran four steps back!
These setbacks started with hospitalization for “overheating and dehydration.” Next were emotional problems and irresponsible and unprofessional behavior on movie sets. For the last seven years Lindsay has been in and out of AA meetings, arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), entered rehabilitation centers and served jail time. She’s been charged with possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license and providing false information to a police officer. She has repeatedly violated most of her probation terms due to failed drug test and missed court appearances.
In February 2011, Lohan was charged with the theft of a necklace reported stolen from a jewelry store the month before. She was sentenced to community service and 120 days in jail. She served the sentence under house arrest wearing a tracking ankle monitor for 35 days due to jail overcrowding. In March 2013, Lohan pled no contest to misdemeanor charges stemming from a June 2012 car accident;. She was sentenced to community service, psychotherapy and lock down rehabilitation. Her probation was also extended for another two years. Between May and July 2013 she spent 90 days in rehabilitation, and was ordered to remain in therapy until November 2014, when her next court appearance is scheduled.
Lindsey Sits Down with Oprah
In August 2013, Lohan was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and discussed her desire to stay clean and get serious about overcoming her demons. Oprah was stated saying that prior to the interview she was prepared to walk away from it if Lindsay did not appear “serious” about wanting to change her life. Lohan is set to appear in a reality docu-series on Winfrey’s OWN cable network in 2014. It has been speculated that she will garner $2 million dollars from it. Later that month Lohan filled in for Chelsea Handler as host of the cable talk show Chelsea Lately. She received positive reviews and the show garnered its best ratings of the year.
By now the entire world should know of Miley Cyrus, the American actress and recording artist. The daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus rose to stardom as a teen idol after being cast in the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana, in which she portrayed the starring character Miley Stewart. Cyrus is recognized amongst the most successful artists to originate from Disney.
She developed an adult image and mainstream pop sound with her extended play The Time of Our Lives (2009). Soon her performances became somewhat more explicit and controversial in nature. Cyrus’s performance of “Party in the U.S.A.” at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards incited an uproar. Her provocative outfit and inclusion of a brief pole dance was inappropriate for her age, then 16, and for her young fans.
In 2012, Cyrus generated considerable media attention after cutting her traditionally long, brown hair in favor of a blonde, pixie-style haircut.
In 2013, Cyrus hired Larry Rudolph as her manager, who had previously worked with Britney Spears. I believe Miley was trying to mirror Britney Spears style of dressing and her performances. Although Britney Spears can dance a little, she can’t sing to save her life. Britney was the good girl gone bad and Miley wants a taste of that bad girl image.
2013 MTV Video Music Awards
In August 2013, Cyrus was the subject of widespread media attention and public scrutiny following a controversial performance and duet with Robin Thicke during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The performance began with Cyrus performing “We Can’t Stop” in teddy bear-themed attire. Following this, Thicke entered the stage singing “Blurred Lines” alternatively with Cyrus, who stripped down to a skin-colored, latex two-piece outfit. Cyrus subsequently touched his crotch area with a giant foam finger and “twerked” against his crotch.
The performance received tons of media publicity. An article published in The Hollywood Reporter described the performance as “crass” and “reminiscent of a bad acid trip“. Media attention of the performance largely overshadowed the attention that was given to other major events of the night, such as the reunion of ‘N Sync and performances by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
Some critics said that she stole the show, while others say she was a train wreck in the classic sense of the word. The audience reactions were a mix of confusion, horror and embarrassment. Her raunchy performance became the most tweeted about event in history breaking the previous record held by Beyonce‘s Super Bowl XLVII halftime show performance six months earlier.
News and social media sites posted numerous articles about parental concerns with the performance’s impact on children. Her performance was reported to contribute towards the dehumanization of black women by mimicking “ratchet culture” and using them as living props, swatting one on the backside.
Reacting to the controversy, Cyrus stated about her critics: “They’re over-thinking it. You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it.”
Perhaps it was her use of cannabis that prompted her behavior. In a video filmed during Cyrus’ 19th birthday party at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, Cyrus went to the microphone and addressed the crowd. Immediately after, her Bob Marley-themed birthday cake had been brought out. Cyrus said, “You know you’re a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake. You know you smoke way too much fuckin’ weed.” Later her publicists stated that the Bob Marley cake had just been a “joke” and that Cyrus’ response had been “sarcastic”.
Can someone please tell me when did the “Aliens” come and brainwash these two rich Hollywood talents?
It seems like the more fame they achieve the more “out of this world” they act.
